1. Medical Condition: Had diphtheria at 12, 1906.

2. Military: Canadian Highlanders, 96th Battalion, Between 10 Dec 1915 and 9 May 1919, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. ⁵⁴⁷⁸ He joined the Canadian Highlanders, 96^th Battalion at Regina on Dec. 10, 1915. His attestation papers state that he was 5'31/2" , of a fair complexion with brown hair and brown eyes. He sailed from Halifax on the SS Laconia Sept 26, 1916 and arrived in Liverpool Oct. 6, 1916. He remained in England until 1917 when he was mobilized to France to active war duty. He was wounded at Vimy 1 May 1917 when a shell casing exploded in front of him severely wounding him in both hands and the upper left arm. He remained in hospital in Bolougne, France for 1 week and was then transferred to 1^st Eastern General Hospital at Cambridge on 8 May, 1917. He remained there until 19 Nov 1917. While there he had extensive surgery on both hands. He was then transferred to the military Convalescent Hospital in Epsom and remained there until 5 Feb 1918. He returned to Canada 11 Mar 1918 and spent time in military hospitals in Kingston and Winnipeg, undergoing more surgeries on his right hand to give him more function. He was discharged from the Canadian Forces on 9 May 1919 with the rank of Private but was entitled to wear two chevrons.
