When Eliza Coke [Hutchings] Le Messurier died young, her parents, George and Mary [Williams] Hutchings made over the "Marsh Meadow" property at the west end of Duckworth St. to Peter Weston Carter to be managed in trust for her children by Pierre Broom Le Messurier. This seems to indicate a distrust on their part that he would adequately look after their children himself. It was noted in the papers that one granchild, John Thomas Le Messurier, was born deaf and dumb, making him particularly vulnerable.

It would appear that there was some measure of distrust in her widower, Pierre Broom Le Messurier, to properly look after their children. This event was shared from Capt.
