2. Alt. Birth: Said to be 77 at time of death in 1878 at time of death, Cir 1801, Ferryland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. 2628 This could be an error in the transcription of the gravestone on NGB website. There are no photographs of the stone easily available to verify.

The headstone information (Transcribed by Dave Wells on the NGB website) differs from the details carried in the local St. John's newspapers. The newspapers indicated that when William died in 1877, his age was 87. However, there is ten year difference in the age inscribed on his headstone. It states William was 77 years old when he died.

This would be the schooner built in Ferryland and owned by William Sanders according to the Vessel Registry in the Atlantic Canada Shipping Project. It was built in 1830 and registered from 1831 to 1851
