The coastguard Francis Holman was my great-great-grandfather. I have not been able to trace his place of birth, but it unlikely that it was the Isle of Wight.

Francis joined the coastguard service in 1827, enlisting at Dartmouth in Devon. The record of his service is available through the National Archives. His coastguard number was N962. He was posted to the Isle of Wight following enlisment, then to Pagham which, incidentally, is in Sussex, not Berkshire! (Berkshire has no coast). He then moved to Pentewan, Cornwall where he drowned in 1843, not as is stated on the memorial stone. His widow moved back to Denbury where one of the daughters. Louisa Jane married Henry Winser. The Winsers appear to have been long established in Denbury.

This was presumably erected on her death in 1867, no surprise that such an error occurred after the passage of time. The newspaper report of his death at the time:
