Arrived in Australia on the "Emperor" on 6 June 1851 with his parents Patrick and Mary KENNEDY and family who were assisted immigrants. Patrick was aged 15 described as a laborer from Glenfinchinnand, Tipperary.

Of Merendee when he married.

It is understood that Julia and Patrick reared an orphan named Thomas Nolan - he was included into the family but never legally adopted.

Settled in Tallawang in the 1860s; probably on land obtained under the Conditional Purchase Provision of 1861 whereby he could sit on land for some years at £1 an acre. It was necessary to make improvements to the extent of another £1 an acre and could eventually gain an outright Torrens Title to the property. The Department of Lands, Sydney have records confirming that Patrick KENNEDY took up three portions of land in the Parish of Goodman, County of Bligheach consisting of 40 acres. He selected portion 119 on 11 November 1875, portion 118 on 23 December 1875 and portion 120 on 7 December 1876. The land was transferred to his son James KENNEDY in 1884.

Family legend records that Patrick liked to drink, look for gold and race horses. Gold prospecting became an obsession. Like the HALLs he did get into trouble for stealing sheep.

Patrick (age 39) and his wife Mary (age 38) arrived in Australia 6 June 1851 (departed 6 January 1851) on the Emperor as assistant immigrants (having paid £24) and they were accompanied by their 7 children Bridget (age 21), Judith (age 17), Phillip (age 19), Patrick (age 15), Nancy (age 13), Honor (age 11) and Mary (age 8). Patrick was described as a laborer from Glenfinchinnand, Tipperary. Patrick's parents shown as Phil and Honoria Kennedy (both dead). Mary's parent's shown as James and Nancy Callinan (both dead).

Death possibly registered in Maitland 1859/3694 father shown as Philip and mother as Mary.

There is a Patrick baptised 19 November 1809 in the Parish of Templeorum, County Kilkenny that shows the mother as Norry PHEALAN and the family living at Castletown, County Kilkenny. Probably does not relate to this family as Templeorum is not close to Upperchurch.
