I don't know at this time who are Ann's parents. George and Eliza may be a married couple. The census does not stipulate. I have assumed that Eliza is a nickname for the sister of George who was christened at the same time as him and that she is the mother of Ann, probably out of wedlock since Ann's name is given as Kingsbury. But it could be that George married a woman named Eliza after Mary Ann Wheeler died and he returned to England and Ann is the child of this hypothetical second marriage. 1165

061112 from the NGB website transcript of the Anglican Cathedral register"2. Charlotte Ryall 349 Marriage: 20 Feb 1842 - Lydlinch, Dorset, England 349,5976,5977
"Oct 31 1833; St. John's; George Ringsbury, bach., St. John's. Mary Anne Wheeler, spin, St. John's; J. A. Wheeler, William Earle."
This entry in the Cathedral Register has caused no end of confusion for the family. Note the two initials J.A. Wheeler. This would seem to imply Joseph Abner Wheeler.
We had initially been persuaded that Mary Anne's father and the father of many ancestors of the Wheelers in Newfoundland today, including Mom, was Joseph Abner Wheeler, a Corporal in the Nova Scotia Regiment, who seems to have married his wife Jane (?) after coming to Newfoundland as part of the garrison for the town during the War of 1812 when the Royal Newfoundland Regiment was sent to Upper Canada to fight the Americans. This was certainly the information originally provided to me by Doug Wheeler's family tree. And I was pleased to receive it because it gave a name to the immigrant ancestor of the Wheelers of Torbay Rd. Mary Anne's baptismal information in the Anglican Cathedral register substantiates this fact.
However, lately we have learned that Corporal Joseph Wheeler (no middle name given) of the Nova Scotia Regiment died on August 2 1813, a few months before the birth of his daughter Mary Anne. Therefore he could not have been the father of the several other children who were born later to a Joseph Wheeler (without the middle name Abner) whose wife was by weird coincidence (?) also named Jane (?). There was another Joseph Wheeler, originally of the Newfoundland Regiment (according to several obituaries published at the time of his death, but seemingly written by the one person), who now appears to have been the father of these other children, including Mom's great grandfather James.
But then we see this J. A. Wheeler showing up again as a witness to the marriage of Mary Ann to George Ringsbury 20 years after the death of Cpl. Joseph Wheeler, NS Regiment. So who was this J. A. Wheeler? An older brother whose birth record is not found in the Anglican Cathedral register? Or possibly this is the other Joseph Wheeler, who was apparently in the Newfoundland Regiment (though the regimental records carry no record of him) and who may have been a cousin of the Joseph Wheeler in the Nova Scotia Regiment perhaps? These are only theories and there is no evidence to support either. This J. A. Wheeler could also be Jane Wheeler, Mary Ann's mother.
The mystery remains.

Note that the marriage record given above is in fact a transcript of the Vital Records copy of the Anglican Cathedral register which was made at the request of the government in the early 1900s. The format they used caused much information to be omitted and also some errors were made by those making the transcription. It is therefore important to return to the original register to get the correct record.
The actual marriage record reads:Marriages 1833

Gloria Dawe Bruuce and I have been working on this couple's information for some years and lately have attempted to make more sense of it. In the process we have determined that the husband's name was Kingsbury, not Ringsbury as it was transcribed from the Cathedral register. It is easy to see how this could have been taken to be Ringsbury but there never has been such a name in the Pulham records whereas Kingsbury is a common name there.
Having determined that the person in question is George Kingsbury and that he was born in Pulham sometime around the same year as his wife's birth (1813), it so happens that there are three baptism records for a child named George Kingsbury all to the same couple during this time frame. Gloria and I agree that they were the same couple and that they were determined to name a son George for whatever reason but the first two children so named died (though there are no burial records for them) and the final one was the son who lived to travel to Newfoundland and marry Mary Ann Wheeler.
Therefore I am adding the information on his parents, his baptism and those of his two similarly named brothers and a sister baptised at the same time as he but not necessarily a twin.
When he was convicted of stealing a fowl and other articles in 1843 he was shown to have been married with one child.
