Marriage Events

• Minister/Priest: William Lawson, Methodist Minister, 15 Oct 1908, Westmoreland County, New Brunswick, Canada.

• Witnesses: Heber T. and Kathleen L. Pribble, 15 Oct 1908, Hillsborough, Albert, New Brunswick, Canada. Marriage Notes

140318:

Their wedding register gives their names as Edward McCoubrey (not Edwin, and without the second name) and Marion Wheeler (not Maria and it is not given as a second name either). In addition it is notable that she is shown as a spinster. So either the first marriage was annulled or she did not admit to it and hence was a bigamist.

010725:
Her religion was given as Methodist but this was probably just assumed since she married a Methodist before a Methodist minister.

160618:

An online contact, Amanda MacCoubrey, whose husband is a descendant of Edward Alexander McCoubrey and Marion Maria Wheeler, believes that the parents of Edward Alesxander McCoubrey as I have them is incorrect. She bases this on the fact that the only known birth/baptismal record for him is the DPHW vital record which shows his birth mother as Elizabeth McCoubrey but leave the name of the father blamk. From this and other related bits of information she had deduced that his mother was Elizabeth McCoubrey by birth and that she had Edward Alexander out of wedlock, though indeed the DPHW record does not state this. She therefore concluded that his mother was Elizabeth Rixon McCoubrey, who later (in 1900) married a James White. She was a daughter of George Rixon McCoubrey and Mary McClarty.

But all of this was purely based upon speculation on her part and contradicts the names of his parents as he gave them on his marriage certificate. So far she remains unconvinced of this more concrete evidence.

Notes
General:
160112: Steer is probably not her maiden name. She was a widow as noted in the Anglican Cathedral register. I believe it may be Stone and that the apparent two wives of Elias Rendell both named Elizabeth are possibly one and the same person.

160112: Another of many marriages consecrated at St. Thomas's after the Cathedral was damaged by fire but recorded also in the Cathedral register.

140916:
This is a transcript of the actual Cathedral register:
"John Thomas Carnell Bachelor and } both of this Parish
Elizabeth Rixon McCoubrey Spinster }
were married in this Cathedral Church this Twentieth
day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy three
by me
George M. Johnson
This marriage was { John T. Carnell
solemnized between us { Elizabeth R. McCoubrey

In the { John W McCoubrey
presence { J W Webber
of us { Phebe McCoubrey

I am coming to the conclusion that the marriages and baptisms that were actually performed at St. Thomas's as opposed to the Cathedral proper are referred to as being performed at the "Cathedral Church". But this has never been confirmed by anyone who knows this to be a fact.

Notes
General:
040703: The baptism and birth record for this person are fairly clear in the photocopy viewed at PANL and the name is clearly Elizabeth Rixon. Perhaps the other children currently showing the name Wix are actually Rixon as well.
