I am at the Rooms trying to figure out where I saw the detailed church register (not the Vital Statistics Transcript) for this marriage. I checked under Pouch Cove on the date the event was supposed to be celebrated (4 Oct, 1859) and did not find it in that very badly photocopied copy.
Then I checked the register of St. Nicholas C of E Torbay and there it was!
The name is very legibly written as Morry. So either that was her actual surname or the minister made a mistake in spelling it that way and it was perpetuated in the Vital Statistics transcript later on.
Notes
General:
Probably Morey. There were plenty of Moreys in this area (Irish Catholic) but no Morrys (English Protestant). I keep the information on her family in the file in case at some future date I should learn otherwise and find out that she was in fact a Morry from the Southern Shore.

Contact from Verna Peters on Ancestry.com
Hi Chris , thanks for your reply on Ancestry.com site. I am not a member on there but a friend kindly allowed me to check things out on her subscription for this week. I am the granddaughter of Tom's brother William Clements/Emma Myrer. This side of the family knew Uncle Tom. He came back to see the family a few times to Halifax, NS before he died in 1948 in Alaska. He had left Nfld. as did most of his brothers and went to the USA where he spent most of his life mining gold. My mother had a ring made from a gold nugget he gave her. It ( the chunk of gold) is the size of a kidney bean! He never married after he left Nfld, and as far as we know there are no children. The family lore was that he married Mary Anne Gosse who was RC and he was Church of England. He was out to sea when she died shortly after they married and when he came home she had been buried in the RC cemetary in Torbay or Pouch Cove. He was NOT happy about this and when he threatened to " re bury " her in the Cof E Cemetary it caused quite the scene...and he left Nfld ( or was run out ) never to go back. My grandfather William and his other brothers came to Halifax where they all worked for the Telephone Company. All of these brothers died in Halifax as did their sister Sophia. We have always wondered about the Morry side of the family and would appreciate any info you could send our way on that family. Are you in Newfoundland? How do you connect to the Clements side? Hope to hear from you, Cheers,Verna Peters

Contacted on Ancestry by Glenda Waugh of Halifax who must be related to the above person. She too has set Matthew Morry (1790) of Ferryland as her 2nd great grandfather believing him to be the father of an Elizabeth "Morry" who married William Clements at St. Nicholas Anglican Church in Torbay. I tried to explain to her that this was an error and that the Elizabeth who married Clements was almost certainly an Irish Morey from Torbay, not an Anglican Morry from Ferryland. I don't think she has accepted my information. The problem stems from the fact the parish register is not publicly available and the Vital Record undoubtedly has her name spelled incorrectly as MORRY.

Having failed to find a suitable match for this person as either Morry or Morey in Newfoundland, today I broadened my gaze and found the record in the media folder of a baptism recorded at St. Patrick's in Ireland of a child named Elizabeth Murray born to Pat Murray and Mary Wyse or Wyse which took place in Newfoundland on February 17 1839. This could well be the person shown on the marriage vital record as Elizabeth Morry. Unfortunately the actual church register showing this marriage is not available online. The church register may or may not be available on microfilm at The Rooms. If it is, that might set the record straight.
The Collection from which this register image was taken is:
Newfoundland, Church Records, 1793-1899
Note that there is at least one other Elizabeth Murray recorded in this collection at a suitable time to be this person.

On my one and only visit to The Rooms during my visit to Newfoundland in 2023 I made it a point to find the actual church register in which this marriage was recorded. I first tried Portugal Cove because that was seemingly the location of the marriage from the vital records but it was not there. So I next checked Torbay and lo and behold there it was. These copies of the church registers are only a photocopy of the original register and are not on microfilm. Nevertheless it was a very clear image and there can be no doubt that her name was entered as "Morry" not once but twice. However, this entry does not record the signatures of the bride and groom and hence we do not know how she would spelled her surname, assuming she was literate. The wedding took place at St. Nicholas Anglican Church as well which means she was most likely Anglican.
So I am left with the dilemma of knowing without a doubt that this woman's surname could not have been Morry and that she could not have been the daughter of Matthew Morry (1790) as several family trees online contend but I am not able to prove it with 100% certainty and hence those people responsible for these family trees will likely never alter them on my say so.

Note that on the Social Security Application of their son Henry Thomas Clemens he gives his mother's name as Elizabeth MOREY, which I firmly believe to be correct.
Today I found on Family Search her official death register dated Jan 31 1898 and giving her age as 56 and her place of birth as St. John's. She was to be buried in Torbay. This is almost certainly the same person, proving conclusively that she was not born in Caplin Bay and clould not have been the daughter of Matthew Morry.

231007: Children Francis, William and Elizabeth (1877) do not appear on the 1991 Census. For the two boys this probably means they had already lefthome. But in the case of Elizabeth, a new Lizzie, born in about 1887,appears along with several other new children since the 1881 census.I take it this means the first Lizzie died before 1887.

210111: I am speculating that this is the daughter of this George because I know of no other who was of the appropriate age to be her father in this location at this time.
040313: In fact, Geoffrey Williams had this daughter as a child of George Morey and Thomasine Mortimore, so forgiving a few minor name differences, this seems to support my conclusion, though Geoffrey's record does not provide a source.

040414 from Freereg.org.uk:
This record of baptism at St. Gabriel's came up in a search for people whose name sounded like Mowry in the transcript of baptisms on FreeReg.org.uk. His parents were Gulielmi (in Latin) or William Weeks and Ellenor Morey (sic). That should mean that they are a part of the Morey/Mory/Morry/Mowry/Moary etc. family whose events are recorded in that church register at the time. But I have no other record of this Ellenor as part of the family. Even so, it seems too much of a coincidence so I am making Ellenor a daughter of William and Jennet for now.
