Notes
General:
[Seskfile2.FTW] Quebec- Brenda Smith - she says her grandmother Bridget, is the daughter of John Sesk and Julia Evans. Apparently she married Louis Chevallier. She was his second wife . This connection unconfirmed.
NB: Zita (Dinn) Sesk has her as daughter of William the immigrant and that is what I am now (270711) showing. But here is the cautionary note placed by David Wells in his Sesk family file: "Notes for Bridget Sisk: Note - All information on this connection is unconfirmed. Bridget is attached here as John 's sister for reference and time line placement purposes only, and should not be considered as fact."
270711: The information concerning Bridget Sisk [sic] contained in the Seskfile2.FTW mentioned above was obtained initially from Brenda Louise Smith, though I obtained the file from someone else (possibly David Wells or Zita (Dinn) Sesk) in about 2000 or 2001.
Today, the same Brenda Smith contacted me from Ancestry. com to report that I had an error in my family tree file concerning this family: " Subject: Louis Chevalier and Bridget Sisk
Hi;
Just wanted to let you know that the Bridget Sisk you have listed is not the Bidget Sisk that married Louis Chevalier. They were my gr.gr. grandparents. She was actually born about 1846 as she was 25 in 1871 when she had her first son. Hope this clears this up for you. I'm still searching for evidence of her parents. All the best in your search"
and
"Subject: RE: Louis Chevalier and Bridget Sisk
Hello Chris;
Yes, it was me who supplied the info. at the time. Due to the Ferryland church fire, all records prior to it are gone. So frustrating! I don't think I had the census records from Quebec at that time so I did not have the approximate year of birth. The census of 1871 states Bridget Ciss (Sisk) is 25 and from Terre Neuve. Having contacted the RC parish in Lourdes de Blanc Sablonc I have verbally confirmed that Louis Chevalier and Bridget Sisk of Ferryland were married in 1871. Please feel free to visit my tree and follow the journey and the never ending work in progress. Unfortunately, I have not found her death record although I know she died in 1880 after giving birth to my gr. grandmother Bridget Chevalier Salter."
I checked out her very small family tree on Ancestry to follow this. But she still lists as parents of Bridget John Sisk and Julia Evans, whom I have from various sources as the ancestors of the Sesk line that married into the Morry line. So I am at a loss at this time to explain the discrepancy. All I can do for now is add her information along with this notation as to the uncertainty of the parentage of Bridget.
"1871 Quebec census states she is age 25. Her birth records were destroyed when the Catholic church burned down in the 1850's."
The 1871 Québec census adds nothing to the debate as it gives her surname as Jéss or Cess (hard to read) and so does not confirm this is the same person. Need to actually SEE the marriage record of which Brenda speaks to make the connection more credible.
280711 additional advice from David Wells: "Zita, if I recall correctly, had Bridget as John's daughter but didn't have anything else on her. With the Quebec info that is suspect. Remember to read my disclaimer in the notes for Bridget."
101113: The 1871 Census indicates that Bridget and Louis were married within the last 12 months, that is 1870 or 1871. But the exact date of the marriage given by the Brown Family Tree on Ancestry would have it as 21 August 1872, after the Census. It seems likely that they were not formally married at first. It also appears that one of the children by his first marriage, Philip, who was born ca 1859 according to the 1861 Census, must have died and another son, born ca 1863, was given his name, since Philip is shown as being only 8 years of age on the 1871 Census
