090703:
The name signed on the wedding register of Robert Morry and Maria Victoria Matilda Windsor as a witness appears to be "Sarah Marg. Ball Windsor". If I am reading this fairly good photocopy at the PANL correctly, then the interesting thing is that the name had been changed to Windsor as early as 1858. I had previously thought this occurred much later. Also the name is probably not Margaret as it seems to say here but Mary as Aunt Jean had thought and as shown elsewhere in her birth and death records.
130413: Note that on some transcripts of church and vital statistics records she is known as Sarah Margaret Ball Windsor and on others as Sarah Mary Ball Winsor. Hard to say for sure which is correct without checking the original registers
130316:
It would appear from information on several Ancestry Family Trees that there MAY have been two daughters with similar names, the first being Sarah Mary Ball Winsor, born and died in 1836, and the second Sarah Margaret Ball Winsor, born ca 1837 and died in 1892. There are conflicting references to this person or persons on various family trees on Ancestry.com. The date of death in 1892 is supported by a reference to the Vital Statistics on the NGB website. I tend to think that she was the one and only child of this relatively unique style of name and that there have been misreadings of the records by a number of people.

General:
Date of death suggested by Aunt Jean's LDS data is strange: Abt. 19 February 1844. This is before the known birth year (1845) of Caroline, according to Helen Steinke, who's data is generally more reliable. Definitely a mistake in Aunt Jean's LDS records so I have removed it. See correct information below from one of her descendents and her grave marker.

From Anthony Oliphant's FTM paper file June 2001:
Notes for SARAH PAYNE WINDSOR: In 1852 the first Roman Catholic school was established in Aquaforte, and the first teacher was Mrs. Sarah Payne Windsor Oliphant. The schoolroom was setup in Mrs. Oliphant's fathers house, Peter Windsor. The hours were from 9:00 A.M to 3:00 P.M with a one-hour lunch break. The enrolment of her school was about 22 pupils, among them her own children.
In 1877, after the drowning death of her son William Peter Oliphant, the school was closed for a long period due to Sarah becoming ill, and remained closed until her recovery. In 1889, the school inspector visited the school in Aquaforte, and reported Mrs. Oliphant as teacher, who taught 13 children in her house. They also stated that the room was lacking in furniture, and the children were backward in their studies, (behind) and that the teacher was very old. The inspector suggested that the school be shut down for a year or two, and the money saved from Mrs. Oliphant's salary could be used to build a new school. The inspector's request was denied, and found unacceptable to the school board. After half a century of service to her community, Mrs. Oliphant was able to continue teaching until her retirement in 1901. Her annual salary was £52 per year.
Sarah Payne Oliphant is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, St. John's NFLD in an Oliphant family plot with her husband George T. Oliphant, and two grandchildren, Alphonsus & Mildred Oliphant, both children of Lindsey & Annie Oliphant. The tombstone reads,
" Erected by George Lindsey Oliphant In memory of his mother Sarah Payne Oliphant, Died July 24, 1903, aged 87 yrs old. Also his father George Treacher Oliphant, Died Dec 18,1909, aged 85 yrs.
"Inscription" May their souls rest in peace" OLIPHANT .
At the bottom of the tombstone it reads, " Alphonsus & Mildred Died in infancy - Beloved children of George & Annie Oliphant. "
More About SARAH PAYNE WINDSOR: Cause of Death: General Decay Occupation: Bet. 1852- 1901, School Teacher Wife
12/06/01: Second marriage date is not known but must have been after the date of death reported for her first husband (4 February 1845) and about a year before the date of birth of their first child (Abt. 1851).
0811211:
Frank Galgay, in his book "A Pilgrimage of Faith", records that Jacob Winser was the first teacher in the newly formed Protestant school in Aquaforte in 1853 but that there were only 11 pupils at the time because all the others were sent to the new RC school. The school was still in operation in 1870 with only 13 students. The teacher then was Caroline Winsor, presumably Jacob's daughter-in-law and niece. He laso reports that the teacher in the new RC school was Mrs. Oliphant, which would be Sarah Payne Windsor, also his niece. So amongst them they had the tutelage of all the children in the village as a responsibility. Sarah was the teacher for almost half a century -- 1852-1901!

Note that the date of Baptism (which would have been a private baptism prior to the Christening at the church) is information I received a long time ago and unfortunately did not document at the time. This information is not found in the church register and must have come from a family source. The estimated date of birth is simply my way of indicating that it would have occurred on or about that date. Legacy does not allow for such an option so I have used the "Bef" designation.

140813: No way of knowing whether the christening took place at St. Phillip's in Aquaforte or St. Luke's in Ferryland as this information was not recorded on the register at Petty Harbour. I cannot account for why there are two totally different Christening dates for this person, as found on NGB website. I know that there are multiple versions of the Ferryland church registers but the information should be the same in all of them. Someone has made a transcription error and it needs to be checked against original sources.
