101109 from NGB: Henry BRANDMr. Nicholas & Ann bap June 2 1799
Since both children in this family (Martha and Francis) were Christened on the same day at the Anglican Cathedral in St. John's, it seems unlikely that they were both born about the same time (i.e. they were a twin). More likely they were born at different times and possibly in a different location and only Christened here when their parents had the opportunity to do so.
140810; From Colony of Avalon website:
Brand, Henry, son of Nicholas Brand(?); died by his own hand January 24, 1836; probably the son of Dr. Nicholas Brand;
Brand, Nicholas, member of committee to build Ferryland courthouse, 1788; listed as Dr. Nicholas Brand in 1799-1800 census;
The will of Nicholas Brand leaves much confusion in regard to the relationship of his children and grandchildren. It mentions a widow of his son Henry named Alice and a son of this union named John Ingram Brand. Until now we had shown there was never any mention of a child named John Ingram Brand.

280413: Contact on Ancestry from Mikepatrick39: Hi - With reference to your excellent family tree, on Ancestry, I have a query. I am a "researcher" who lives in Topsham, Devon, UK. I wonder if you can help me with the death of the above Henry (father of John Ingram Brand). On this side of the Atlantic, we have, e.g.: Exeter and Plymouth Gazette - Saturday 21 November 1835, DIED: Nov 13 - Suddenly, Henry Brand, Esq., solicitor of Mount Radford. [The circumstances of his death are shrouded in mystery!]. You have: DEATH 24 Jan 1836, St John's, Newfoundland - Died by his own hand! My suspicion is that we are both correct, but that your date is the one on which his death was reported in a St John's newspaper. We have that the Burial of Henry Brand, aged 39 years, took place on 24 Nov 1835 in St Leonard's, Exeter, Devon. I would welcome your thoughts!!
300614 From Ruth Standring:
Sarah Ball was a witness to Anna Maria Brand's (d. of Nicholas Brand) and Francis William Lock Ross's marriage in Topsham, Devon in 1820. In turn, Nicholas' son, Henry Brand and his wife, Alicia Eleanora aka Alice, were apparently witnesses at Sarah Ball/Robert Cockeram's marriage. (I got that second one from this forum post: <http://ngb.chebucto.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=229&p=7796&hilit=sarah+cockeram#p7796> - I'm geckosearch in a reply post). So there seems to be a close relationship there.

280810 Enid O'Brien uncovered this reference which MAY pertain to the same John Ingram Brand. However, lacking other details to support this, I would not normally enter the information on the marriage and wife. However I then found the 1871 Census information on the family which confirmed it - he named his youngest daugher at the time after his mother!

140319:
SDC Vol 4 Fol. 438 John I Brand to Wm H Townshend 03-07-1868
This Southern District Court document held at the Registry of Deeds in St. John's is a conveyance of lands in Aquaforte originally granted to John Ingram Brand's grandfather, Nicholas Brand, twenty years before. The original grant cost 11 shillings. John sold the land to a Yarmouth merchant for $2000! Not a bad profit in 20 years. These lands were then occupied by Peter Winser Jr. as tenant and eventually did belong to the Winsor/Windsor family but there is apparently no document showing that they bought the land from the new owner so they may have only occupied it by squatter's rights when the NS Merchant failed to protect his ownership. 2416
