Notes
General:
210313:
According to William Cocker's paper on Herring Neck, published in the Newfoundland Ancestor, Vol. 29, 1 2013, Edwin Duder had business premises there which were later purchased by George John Carter.
210616:
Nimshi Crewe wrote a note on his transcript of the marriage notice of this couple:
"I recall him as an old man. He bought the Herring Neck branch of the insolvent firm of Edwin Duder and carried on there in his own name -- I think the business is still going, owned by his son Alan Carter, St. John's and managed by Mr. Joseph White. N.C. Crewe 2 Sept. 1964"
150419:
I have just discovered the record in the Central District Court ROD files in which the purchase of Mount Scio farm is transacted and it turns out it was not George Carter who purchased it originally but his wife, Elizabeth Viola Goodridge. I'm sure how widely this is known in the family and I'm also not sure why it was she and not he who made the purchase (possibly to distance the purchase from potential vulnerability to his business creditors).

General:
Details on this person come from George LeMessuriers Carter/Morry/ LeMessurier family tree. See PANL MG 31 File 55. The details on date of death and age at death were written in by someone later and I believe they are erroneous because the age would mean he was born almost a decade before his parents married!
100906: In handwritten marginalia that is barely legible on the copy of the Carter Family Tree I received from Enid O'Brien it indicates he was born in 1821. I cannot make out all the rest. This makes more sense as that was the year his parents married. It appears he remained a bachelor. Reverend George Carter was a minister.

Marriage notice as transcribed by Jean Carter Stirling
ALDERDICEYesterday's wedding, Alderdice-Carter
Yesterday afternoon Mr. F.T. Alderdice of the Colonial Cordage Company offices was united in holy matrimony to Miss Harriet Carter at St. Thomas' Church. The Reverends Dunfield and Godden officiated. Misses L. Carter and M. Clift attended the bride, while Messrs. F.B. Clift and E. Shea supported the groom. After the ceremony had ended and a sumptuous repast had been partaken of at Mr. F.B.T. Carter's, the bride and groom boarded the train for Whitbourne for their honeymoon trip.

Notes
General:
300112: In the NGB transcript of the church record the dates of burial are sometimes mistakenly given as the date of death. It isn't known if this is one of those cases.
140813: No way of knowing when the actual birth took place as it was not recorded on the birth/baptismal record as transcribed on NGB website. What is given here is an error on another transcript which took the baptismal date as the birth date.
160703: There is some confusion concerning her middle names. On the marriage record and apparently on the gravestone though it is essentially illegible her name seems to be given as Harriet Cosbie or Corbin Carter and only on the birth-baptismal record does it seem to be Harriet Maria Skinner Carter. My guess is that there were reasons for this and she changed her middle names when she was old enough to do so.
She was the next of kin identified by her borther James Henry who died in WWI
