Notes taken by Nimshi Crewe (found in MG281 at The Rooms) from the Terra Nova Advocate, St. John's, NL, Saturday 13th Sept. 1884:

"Married on Tuesday evening, at St. Mary's Church, by the Rev. E. Botwood, Rural Dean. Mr. Joseph E. Chase, of Bath, England, to Miss Elizabeth Hill, second daughter of the late Captain Washington Windsor."

He forwarded this note to Vic LeMessurier Badcock to see if she recognised these people.

170919:

Anna Elton Morris reported from an interview with their granddaughter Elizabeth (Betty) Cousins on October 1 1985 that this couple separated or divorced, though that was unusual in those days. He returned to England with one daughter, Florence, and left the younger daughter with "Mr. & Mrs. Lyons" who raised her because her mother, Elizabeth, ran off to live with her sister Annie in Oradel, New Jersey. Betty also reported that Elizabeth remarried there to James Morris of Brooklyn, New York but that would seemingly be a bigamous marriage. She then died at 33 on Sept 10 1898. The date does not quite correspond with the one I have and I suspect that what I have is actually the date the death was reported in the St. John's newspapers. Sisters Annie and Alice were both nurses and ran a nursing home in Oradel, New Jersey.
