Born at 21 Old Broad Street, London July 6, 1780(Date questionable)
080108:
Following information from Cindy Hogg's family tree: "Captain Louis de Teissier was not in good rapport with his family and in fact was kicked out as his wife was a first or close cousin.and they were against the marriage. He was said to be disinherited but is believed to have inherited lands and closes at Springfield, Essex which would mean there was some level of reproachment over the years. A Captain in His Majesty's 50th Regiment of Foot, which he left in 1811 to become a jeweller, following his father's profession. He is recorded as living at South Adley Street, Hanover Square, Westminster, London. Age 30. Occupation Jeweller. mar He is recorded as living at No 100, Teddington, Middlesex. Age 55. Occupation Jeweller. mar He started the Jewellers, Tessiers, and three of his sons carried on the business, one of them made an unsuitable marriage and he too, was thrown out of the family, this information came from one of his descendants. He is recorded as living at Avenne Cottage, Ham, Surrey. Age 68. Occupation Retired Jeweller. marr" This could be copied from Cristian Holmes since the same material is found on his family tree as well, including the fact that the exerpt is cut off. Cristian indicated that his source material and likely Harcourt's was Brett's Peerage. All three of these researchers could havesimply copied the same material from that source or from one another's family trees, I'm not sure which. I am not going to puruse this family line further down to Cindy's husband since it has nothing to do with the branch that emigrated to Newfoundland (via Lewis's cousin Peter).

1 NAME Louis /Tessier/
Notes from Christian Holmes: "Merchant of the City of London, trading in at least Silk. Evidence suggests that he supported Roman Catholic priests and refuges of France. When the King of France was bestowing the title, Baron of France onthis family, heasked the King to give the title to his youngest son, James de Tessier. James installed a plaque in the London chapel where generations of Tessiers resided commemorating his family, stating the founder of the clan was Chevelier Hughes de Teissieri of Nice, Honore's grandson and other information about various other members of the family. Was in business with his brother Etienne (Stephen) who operatedout of the same address in Old Broad Street. He is recorded as working at 21 Old Broad Street, London, Occupation Merchant Commerce(s) He was in correspondance with William Temple Franklin, grandson and secretary to Benjamin Franklin with regard to settling Bills of Exchange for third parties. Interestingly so was the Marquis D'Yranda (see Mary D'Yranda de Teissier). Claiming to have had silk bales stolen. CSH hastranscript Buys Woodcote Park from Arthur Cuthbert Boulton & Watt were steam engine manufacturers. A mention of his company called "Messrs. Teissier and Co.". ALS signed "Nelson & Bronte," one page, 7.5 x 9,no date. Letter to Lewis Teissier. In full, "I am obliged to go out of town tomorrow and shall not return till Tuesday or Wednesday, therefore I trust Madame Brupes to excuse my seeing her 'til Monday noon, at 23 Piccadilly." Integral address panel on the reverse is addressed to Teissier in Nelson's hand, who also adds "If not in town to be forwarded to Epsom." Reverse also bears a date of July 11, 1801, on a docketed panel. It has been suggested that Madame Brupes was the widow of Nelson's opponent at the Battle of the Nile, Admiral de Brupes. The recipient of the letter appears to have been a Royalist exile. His family was originally the barons de Tessier de la toure and were from Nimes. Lewis Tessier himself is recorded as purchasing Woodcote Park near Epsom Surrey England, as per Nelson's address book shows and Lewis styled himself on the as the Barron de Tessier of the Kingdom of France by Royal Warrant. The property still stands and is now the Club house on the famous RAC Golf course. In very good condition, with moderate mailing folds, scattered light toning and soiling, a few small fold separations and a few slight water spots. Sold for $12,000 (2006) Broad Street Chapel, London. Reads Hic Juxta Situ Sunt ofsa LUDOVICI TEISSIERI de Woodcote In Comitatu Surriae Armigeri Mercator Londinensis Virtute et probitate Maximo honore habitus Amicus Hospitio et munificenti aceleberimus Din eff bornit Obiit 30o Die Octob. AD 1811 AEtstis sure 75" I have not vetted the information from Harcourt Gardiner on the descendants of this family against Christian Holmes' tree because it is notrelevant to the Newfoundland line but it looks to be more or less correct.
