His declared his home had 12 rooms and was valued at $2000, much higher than his neighbours who were fishermen. But his income was $300, not much more than those involved in the fishery full time. Note that Dr. Joseph Louis Giovanneti is staying with them as a lodger. This is the official sale of John Morry's old house and lands at the junction of the Barkhouse Meadow Rd. (back lane) and the Main Highway (Hwy 10). He was required to give this up for sale by the executor of the will of his father, Thomas Graham Morry III, in return for receiving the house and lands of the latter left conditionally in his Will This event was shared with John Henry MORRY, Pte. Note that the census taker made numerous mistakes. He had them all as of Irish extraction, including Mom Morry, even though he had her place of birth as Scotland! He had Dad Morry listed as "housewife" where his occupation should be instead of Mom Morry. But the information on him is found in the line above and shows him as a cod fisherman earning $600/yr. He also had her listed as an RC. Then on the next page he has Uncle Bill and Uncle Reg listed as being of English extraction even though they are in the same family as the others.

Interesting: Stories told by Laura (Agnes) Morry, After 1945, Ferryland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. ⁸¹ She says that he and Charlie Freebairn used to come to their house and sing the old songs that soldiers like them sang in WWI. She mentions "I belong to Glasgow" but I think that was more likely one of Mom Morry's favourite songs. She also says that he claimed to have a spyglass that could look beyond the islands to Scotland. I suspect this was after Mom Morry died in 1948 when he was feeling lonely and nostalgic. She also said he smoked cigars, which I never knew before.

to the Museum three large fragments of the headstone of
Robert Benger of Ferryland.
Neither the date of his birth
nor of his death appears on
any of the fragments, but he
was a member of the old Benger family of Ferryland. Two
of his forebears, Robert and
John Benger were among the
signatories of a petition sent
in the year 1709 to Joesph Dudley, Governor and Captain General in and over His Majesty's
Colonies of New England and
New * Hampshire, by residents
of the Isle au Bois, Ferryland
requesting that they be allowed to remain on the island.
Subsequently one of the Benger family is believed to have
lived in Lord Baltimore's house
at Ferryland. Later members
of the Benger family carried
on business in Ferryland for
many years. The Curator of
the Newfoundland Museum is
most grateful \\o Mr. Morry for
having recovered the parts of
the headstone, and for having
presented them to the -Museum.
