Emails concerning John Green of Placentia May 2023:
Christopher,
yes there are many John Greens - every son of every Green family named one of their sons John. There are some James but not as many.
The John Green on your website is my 3rd great grandfather , born 1737, died 1829 and the author of the Will you have posted. His 2nd wife was widow Corbin. He is the father of Maria who married James Bradshaw around 1840 as recorded on your website. Emma and James had 2 daughters Lucy and Emma (could be more) baptized in Argentia, who would have been Bradshaws and married. Emma married a James Boyle from Ireland.
John 1st son, Maria's 1/2 brother, James married Elizabeth Hill around 1836. This James also had a son James born about 1840.
So yes there are many of the same name in the same and different generations. Most of my research has centred around John 1st son John as my father is his direct descendant. Since John 2nd was born in 1790, before widow Corbins husband died, I have assumed that John 2nd is not the son of widow Corbin - widow Corbin is the mother of only some of John 1st children. John Corbins headstone is in a Placentia area graveyard. I assume it is unlikely that she had children with John3rd until her husband died. There is family folklore about John and how his Irish wife , widow Corbin made him give up his Protestant ways before she married him - the facts are scanty about whether it was Quaker or Mason regalia - although it appears he never converted and was buried in the old Anglican cemetery in Placentia while she was buried in the RC cemetery.
But getting back to my original question - my interest was peaked when I saw your site contained info on my John Green and Greens from the Southern Shore as I have been trying to figure out if there's a connection between the Point Verde Greens, the Southern Shore Greens, the Old Perlican Greens, the Trinity Greens, the Burin Greens and the Greens on the islands in Placentia Bay. I guess my search continues until I come across more research.
Thank you
Dolores

It would be very possible that there were over the years several men in that area named John Green with sons named James and an unnamed daughter who married an unnamed Bradshaw. This is all too vague to make anything out of.

> I am descended from John Green- my great grandfather was John Green the 3rd. John Green lived in Point Verde, Placentia. I wondered about the southern shore Greens because they are listed on your website. John Green the 1st had a daughter who married a Bradshaw and they had 2 daughters. Johns son James married Mary Murphy. I have no record of any Green males marrying Bradshaw women so I am very interested in that info. Do you have more info about those males and birth and death dates so I can see where they fit in my family tree.

> As for the Point Verde Greens , I am not ruling out that they might be related to the Southern Shore Greens yet - just keeping an eye out for new info that will either confirm or rule it out.

>> It sounds as if we are talking about two completely different families. Where were your people located, in Placentia or on the Southern Shore? I do know of course that there was a large family of Green(e)s from the Cape Broyle area but they were in no way connected to the Green family of Placentia that intermarried with the Bradshaw family of Placentia. If you can provide more details on names, places and dates this should be easy to sort out with certainty.
