From - The Telegram, St. John's, Newfoundland. February 5, 2016
James Primus Battcock - A gentle loving man left this world on Thursday, February 4th, 2016, when James Primus Battcock passed away in his 83rd year. James passed peacefully surrounded by his large loving family. He will be reunited with his dear wife Phyllis Battcock, who went before him. Forever grateful to be a part of his life, and heartbroken from his loss are his children Lisa Hohoff (Uwe Hohoff), Katie Battcock (Chris King) and James Battcock. Left with great memories of a loving grandfather, ("Jim Pop"), are his four grandchildren Kai and Lukas Hohoff and Kylie and Cameron Battcock and expected to arrive in July, baby King. Also leaving to mourn, his two surviving siblings Fidelis Walsh and Nelly O'Brien, numerous nieces and nephews, and a very close-knit group of friends, all who meant the world to him. James was born in Brigus South, NL, one of 15 children, he lived a full and successful life, and he was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a non-judgmental, kind soul, with a great sense of humor. His wit and his infectious smirk always lightened even the most difficult situations. James was a story teller and historian. He shared many stories of his time spent working in Labrador, Greenland and for many years at Her Majesty's Penitentiary. Many of these stories have been meticulously recorded by news clippings and pictures that fill the many journals he so fondly kept. James was also an avid gardener. His training at the Government Agricultural College fostered his love of gardening, his specialty was growing many varieties of potatoes. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Ave, Mount Pearl. Visitation on Friday, February 5th, from 7-9 PM and Saturday, February 6th, from 12-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass will be held at Mary Queen of the World Parish on Monday February 8th, 2016, at 9:30 am, following which, he will be laid to rest alongside his life mate at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. Continuing to celebrate James' life, a reception will be held at the Pearlgate Track and Field Club, Mount Pearl, immediately following the burial.
